Thanks for sharing the audio, you should have kept going!!

I'm impressed that opening an Australian bank account went so smoothly for you!! It took so long when I did it a few years ago, I don't know why!! 🤷

"In my Australian fairytale, the pie on the window would be a meat pie or a snag from Bunnings, and the boyfriend would be my magical helper, and in a way he delivered. Except for the house tour." 🤣🤣🤣 He's never going to live that down 🤣🤣🤣

It's a trope now! hahaha

Getting my Permanent Residency was hard, getting my Passport was hard... everything that is public sector is hard but banks? They want one thing only, and make it really easy for people to give it to them :P

Yay! I finally got to hear your voice. It makes such a difference to hear someone's voice after chatting with them for weeks. So cute 🥰

Awwww don't make me blush 🤭 I am glad the effect of my little voice intro was mostly positive (but boy was it hard to record!!)

On a side-side-side note: did my own restack led you to the post? I almost didn't re-share it because it feels weird to quote myself, but I forced myself to do a morning restack for my Europe friends and maybe notes do work ?? I sure hope they lead my readers to all the articles I quote ~

I know, lol! I recorded a short snippet some time ago that I added to my post. I think it was 15 seconds haha and it took me forever. I kept saying "Umm... mmm... hmmm."

Actually, I went to your profile after you left a comment on my last post. I'm so behind on my reading, unfortunately (still travelling), so I thought - let me check out what Barbs is up to. You definitely should restack your own posts, Barbs, and include snippets of them. Why not? Don't be shy about it! Most of our inboxes are full of posts, so I'm always happy when I see a snippet or restack to remind me that I still need to read your latest post.

Haha we're all learning how to put our voice on the internet. Thank god it's not video!!

Thanks for the feedback though, I'll try to share my favourite quote more often then. I think you're right in saying our inboxes are crowded :S especially when we're busy living and travelling!! How was your trip??

Finally getting around to replying. I got back last week, and it has been incredibly busy with our exhibition, but I’m slowly starting to settle into things. I have my Christmas tree up, and I’m currently listening to "Last Christmas" while writing this haha Thank you for asking; my holiday was great but also exhausting, spending three weeks with my family. I’m happy to have some alone time again. Are you staying in Australia over the holidays?

Expand full comment

(ah sorry I just asked you again in another comment! lol ignore that) relaxing holidays are nice and all, but it's the exhausting ones that bring you back to life. Although, staying with family when you don't see them all the time IS a whole different level. Yes I think I'll stay here but I might consider going back next year, all my friends are teachers so summer is always a good option. I like how you went full Christmas vibes this year hahaha

More voiceovers please!! In all honesty, I don't always register when there's a voicenote bar 😅 But! I do love them and I think I added one for two posts so far. I want to do this more consistently, but I tend to go into tangents and the amount of times that I have to rerecord because I find myself talking about what's happening outside my window or that I forgot my tea...let's just say it happens more than I'd like to admit.

"Should I expect a koala wearing a waistcoat to invite me to a tea party any moment now?" <- I SO want to attend this tea party!! 🍵 I haven't had the chance to open an account overseas yet, but I did open a third account to divide the monies better. It was done with a few clicks and I felt a bit underwhelmed by it. Not sure what I wanted or expected, and in the end, I rather have an ease when it comes to all things money, but I do like magical quests *swooshes around with a cape*

Expand full comment

Now, I am a fan of third accounts that happen with a click! It makes you feel so productive (even if it's underwhelming) ;) I get the accessibility part of a voiceover but I think I'd like a commentary better than a straight out word for word. Maybe you're into something !!

Expand full comment

Haha I do love to feel productive! 😅 I think I prefaced with both voiceovers that it’s not a word by word recitation. I tried to read out my posts, but I just can’t do it. I need to have some sort of melody with how I say things, not that I’ll burst out in song though.

I liked your voiceover. It’s something I have debated doing at some point too.

I’m with you on banking. I remember opening and closing a bank account in Spain many years ago during my university days. It was a convoluted process to say the least!

Expand full comment

Thanks! You should definitely record something! It's so hard, it takes a loooooong time, but it's a bit fun too :P

Banks are strange and mysterious places, aren't they?! Good on you for actually closing your international account!! That's an achievement!

They are, are they? Thank you - it wasn’t without a battle I could have done without, though.

Haha - I can imagine. Listening to one is much more personal for the reader/listener. I’ll give it go at some point!

Loved hearing your voice! ✨💛

Aww thanks! It feels strange to hear myself, I'm sure I don't sound like that XD

Omg I adore you! 🥰🤣 You should read more. Your voice is the best and you did so well. 🤩 This whole thing was just the cheer up I needed post US election. 🫶🏻

Your childhood summer sound fascinating to me. I liked all the Disney princesses. Prob Belle was my fave but I did love Mulan and Pocahontas too!

“It was a surprising outcome, as I was prepared for deportation, or worse, having to reprint a document. Blood and tears on paperwork were often the case with Italian bureaucracy, and they were not always your own.” 🤣🤪

Pancakes always make things better for sure!

Belle was another good one but I don't know why, I never felt a connection with her. Probably because she was living with a man-beast! Oddly, I could relate more to Cinderella. All women in the house and wanting to play dressup for a night? Yeah that's me (minus the cleaning).

Thanks for listening!! We did a proper circle of encouragement right there! ✨

PS: following the election results was like watching a car crash in slow-mo. The world is both falling apart. I hope you have a good support network around you!

Also I am also all for dress up and not for cleaning or being treated like a servant in the cinders. 🤣😅 Proportions wise I’d be more ugly step sister. No dainty feet for me. 🤨🤪

Expand full comment

Apparently one of the sisters gets a redemption arch in the second Cinderella! Cindy is a hit or miss, I lack the dainty feet and angelic voice. But I look good with stuff on my head so pass me the tiara ~ did she have a tiara? no she had a headband! What a waste

An 80s headband and big earrings but I think it was made in the 50s so that just proves how fashions just repeat ever 30 years. 🤔

Expand full comment

You’re right, if it’s not 30 is 50 but we’re definitely in a loop! I’ve recently seen a tiktak (one of the few good ones) that linked the classic ‘hippy style’ to that of Liberty style iconography of the early 1900. I never connected the two! 🤯

What? Ohhh! I’d have to see this link! I knew the 70s and 90s link and now flares are back (I do not plan to bring back flares personally — you?).

I’m thankful I live in the UK but sad for all my American ladies who now have fewer human rights. 😭 Your voice is so so so so cute. 🫶🏻 Why are people hating on the beast. 🤣 I also have my own “getting a UK bank account with my Dad” story and it was equally jumping through hoops and more complicated than it should have been. 🙈

Will we get to hear the tale? even if it's a bit off-brand for you... unless you met the teller at starbucks one day?

🤣🤣🤣🤣 My current English town has no Starbucks. I rarely visit any SBs now which is just as well as I don’t need to pick up random men. 🤓

XD XD XD I think Millennials can't afford a house because of coffee, not avocado toasts! You're doing great.

I just married Gen Xers twice and they had the houses. 😉 I mean I could now afford a house but maybe not renovations and I think avocado toast was after my time. 🤣🙈

Haven't read the post yet, but I saw "quest" in the title and that got me excited!

Expand full comment

Oh, sorry to disappoint but this is barely about a quest. Don't get your hopes up! Wait until I get to Brissy next week and I'll go on a REAL quest!! (then the approximate chronological order of this blog will go completely off)

That is called "product misplacement"😋

I'll remember that! I'll start with "How did this article get here? It must have been misplaced. Oh well, since we're already all gathered, I might as well continue telling you about my QUEST..."
