How is the culture you identify with important for a clerk job at the hospital?? Also, I assume it's frowned upon to ask about your race? Because they were asking about race there, not culture. White is not a culture...
The next question is even stranger for a job app... I mean, aren't PhDs a minority in this world? 😊
That was precisely my thought! But then I called myself a special snowflake because I don't think that's what they meant with minorities. (I still don't know the answer btw!!) Australia is a strange woke place, they have to fulfil quotas and have to be inclusive but without asking. The list of options for Gender Identity is wild! I think 'culture' is a politically correct way of asking 'where are you from'. Often they twist it, asking which other language you speak, and which one do you speak at home. So convoluted!!
Eventually did you vote at the referendum? Immigrant voting rights is a big and difficult topic, at least in my mind. Should I be allowed to vote in my country of origin, or in my country of residence? If I am allowed to vote in the former, should I exercise that right, given I do not live there?
And in your case, should you vote if you cannot relate to the topic?
Great questions!! I am quite proud of my double-voting value. But, really, as much as I love my country of origin (insert sit-com laugh track) I usually ask my mother who she votes for and trust her opinion. She's the one living there, after all. As for voting in a foreign country, I'd agree that citizens should be able to do it. I was pulled in for that referendum after my citizenship, but I also think that only First Nations Peoples should have voted on that one. It felt very much like a white guilt trip and, guess what, the 'no changes to the current constitution' won. So much for a leftist Country !
big time ~ even though the usual sense of right and left wing is off, everything leans left (except the far right ‘one nation’ kinda party). Did you see the senator lady who, upon meeting the King, shouted at him that he’s not her king and her land was stolen? she still gets a parliament salary.
Very fair! Sometimes I tune into EU news and it's not looking great :( I'm concerned for the next elections in Germany too... You know, it only takes a few generations to forget things.
“If we had a similar practice back in my hometown we would have to acknowledge a long list of historical inhabitants: Celts, Romans, Visigoths, the Western Roman Empire, Odoacer, the Ostrogothic Kingdom, the Byzantine Empire, the Lombard Kingdom, Bavarians, the Frankish Kingdom, the Holy Roman Empire, the Austrian Empire, Austria-Hungarians and, finally, Italians.” 🤣 Job applications are always a nightmare. 🙈

Wait, is Australia considered a leftist country??
big time ~ even though the usual sense of right and left wing is off, everything leans left (except the far right ‘one nation’ kinda party). Did you see the senator lady who, upon meeting the King, shouted at him that he’s not her king and her land was stolen? she still gets a parliament salary.
No I haven't. Lately problems in Greece, Europe and US (in that order) have flooded my newsfeed, so there was not much bandwidth for Australia😅

right? It's like waiting to get picked for teams during PE.
Haha perfect analogy! Job applications always make me think I’m not qualified for anything. 🙈🤪
